Dahlia's are a herbaceous perennial plant native to Mexico and Central America. The flowers bloom from mid-summer through the first frost. Instead of producing scent, they utilize bright colors to attract pollinators. They are able to a produce most hues of the color spectrum with the exception of blue. There are fourteen different flower styles within the species. The flower head is made up of florets that are individual flowers themselves, not petals.
